What is Muga Silk?
Muga sarees are woven in muga silk, which is

silks, muga is an integral part of the tradition and culture of Assam. This
fabric is one of the world treasures of fine silk fabrics.
Muga silk is a royal fabric like the kanjeevaram silk. Its sheer beauty

in India but also in foreign markets. Muga is washable at home, unlike other
silk fabrics. The muga silk filament cannot be bleached and hence cannot be
dyed. There is a natural golden and shimmering look in muga silk which

As already mentioned, muga silk has a
golden, shimmering color and hence all muga silk sarees have just one
colour- a natural shimmery golden beige colour. Maybe you will find muga

Designs and Motifs of Muga Silk Saris
Various motifs, butis are
knitted or woven on the saree and its border. Each ethnic group of the State
has its own distinctive design and style. The motifs used in these sarees
are mostly traditional symbols of

- the galaxy and
- ornamental designs.
